1) Verify printer status after reboot

  • Open Devices and Printers
  • Confirm printer is not Offline or Paused
  • Set printer Online if needed

2) Check Print Spooler service

  • Open Services
  • Confirm Print Spooler is running
  • Restart service to clear any stalled state

3) Verify printer driver integrity

  • Open Printer Properties
  • Confirm correct driver is still installed
  • Reinstall approved vendor driver if replaced by update

4) Verify printer port configuration

  • Open Printer Properties → Ports
  • Confirm correct port and IP address
  • Correct port if reset during update

5) Check Windows default printer behavior

  • Disable “Let Windows manage my default printer”
  • Ensure correct printer remains selected

6) Review security or firewall changes

  • Check firewall rules after update
  • Ensure printer traffic is not blocked
  • Add exception if required

7) Reboot printer and system

  • Power-cycle printer
  • Reboot workstation after corrections
  • Allow full startup before testing

8) Test printing

  • Print Windows test page
  • Send live test order
  • Confirm printing is restored

9) Escalation check

  • If printer still fails:
  • Review Windows update history
  • Check Event Viewer for print-related errors
  • Escalate to systems or hardware support
